Annual Pledge Campaign

“Stewardship” is the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care.  Faithful stewardship of our financial resources makes our community life possible. We invite you to join us in supporting the work and ministry of Redeemer through a financial commitment.

We encourage members to consider their pledge as a proportion of their income and as an intentional effort to “give first” to God.  Many members give in the 3% to 5% range.  The actual percentage is less important than the commitment to give back to God a portion of the gifts God has graciously given to you.  We hope you will prayerfully consider your own pledge, whether you are new to Redeemer or a lifelong member!

What Redeemer’s members say about why they give

Each year the annual pledge campaign gives us an opportunity to think deeply about what matters in our lives, and to act accordingly.  Many parishioners describe pledging as a joyful and fulfilling experience.  A pledge is a spiritual reminder that God’s grace permeates our lives and that spiritual health comes from sharing what we have with others.

During the annual pledge campaign, we invite members to offer “living epistles” – reflecting on why they are moved to give to Redeemer. Read what some of our parishioners have said: Murray Daniels; Sam Stevens; Deb Jacoby-Twigg; Randy Bowlby; Janet Needham.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a pledge?

A pledge is an indication of your intent to make a financial gift to the Church of Our Redeemer for the coming calendar year.  It is an expression of thanksgiving, joy, and commitment to the life of this parish and our work in the community and the world.  It is not a contract or even a promissory note.  You may fulfill your pledge all at once or in as many payments as you wish throughout the year. If your financial circumstances change such that you need to adjust your pledge, all you have to do is notify the office.

Why pledge?

We give because God has called us to give.  On a practical note, we have a responsibility to pay our bills and fund the ministries of our parish.  About 65% of Redeemer’s total operating budget is funded by donations (pledge and non-pledge) from parishioners.  Of this, weekly non-pledge (“plate”) offerings cover only 6%.  Annual pledges are what make our commitments for the coming year possible.  On a practical level, a pledge helps you plan your personal budget.  And from Redeemer’s administrative perspective, pledge commitments are essential for determining what programs we can support each year and planning the church budget accordingly.

How do I pledge, and when?

We ask everyone to make a pledge by “Ingathering Sunday”, which is usually the end of November. Pledges are also welcome throughout the year.

  1. Complete a pledge card and mail it to the church

2. Pledge online at any time. Need help? See the instructions below for making a pledge or giving online.

How do I fulfill a pledge that I make?

Based on your personal preference, you may mail a check to the church office (6 Meriam Street, Lexington, MA 02420), or you may use the digital giving tools (through our partnership with Vanco) to have payments made electronically and automatically.

You may fulfill your pledge in any of several ways, based on your personal preferences and financial circumstances. Some members place a check in the offering plate on a regular basis. Others choose to use the digital giving tools (through our partnership with Vanco) to have payments made electronically and automatically.

Where else does the church’s money come from?

Rental income we receive from onsite daycare and for the use of the church steeple for cell phone antennas covers about 30% of our annual operating budget.  The remaining 5% is covered from our endowment.

Does everybody pledge? How much do they pledge?

Approximately two-thirds of Redeemer members pledge. The amount of your pledge is a personal decision, and every pledge makes a valued contribution to our mission and ministry. We encourage you to give proportionally – i.e. a fixed percentage of your income. Many members give between 3% to 5%.

Can’t we just rely on people renewing last year’s pledge amount?

Our pledge income must increase to ensure we can maintain and grow our current level of programming and outreach, and to ensure our staff is paid justly with salaries that keep appropriate pace with their professional skills and with cost of living increases. The pledge campaign is conducted annually in the hope that individuals can increase their financial commitments each year, as they are able.

Who knows how much I pledge?

The Church of Our Redeemer’s office keeps all pledges strictly confidential. A small group of church leaders — the Treasurer and Stewardship Committee — have access to pledge records. They have all signed confidentiality agreements not to disclose any information they receive.

When I pledge or give digitally, is my personal and financial information secure?

Yes! All of Redeemer’s pledges and online gifts are encrypted and securely processed through Vanco, Redeemer’s electronic payments provider. Their form is accessed via a link on our site but hosted by Vanco.  To learn more, visit
